Sunday Lawn Care Review: Is It Worth It?

Sunday Lawn Care Review

Subscription boxes are very trendy right now. It is not hard to see why. There is something very appealing about a personalized kit delivered regularly right to your doorstep! So, why not a fertilizer subscription box?

Introducing Sunday Lawn Care!

What is a subscription box, anyway?

There are subscriptions available for just about everything these days, from beauty products to food, to books, to toys and crafts.

A lawn care subscription works the same way. Sunday Lawn Care will send pre-determined lawn care packs within the U.S. when they need to be applied to your lawn.

What is Sunday Lawn Care?

GetSunday Logo

The founders started Sunday Lawn Care with a simple mission to nourish their lawns without a bunch of chemicals. They wanted to create a product that fed grass but also maintained a healthy ecosystem.

Their website states that they give an unspecified portion of every sale to One Percent for the Planet.

Who are the founders?

Coulter Lewis and his brother, Trent Lewis, are the founders of Sunday Lawn Care. The company started in 2018 with its vision for a better, more eco-friendly method of lawn care.

Chief Science Officer Frank Rossi got on board with Lewis to create the science behind the products. Rossi has a Ph.D. in turf science and worked on the turf at the Yankee Stadium.

Where To Buy Sunday Lawn Care

I found the Sunday Lawn Care web page to be very user-friendly. It is easy to navigate to the ‘get started’ page to get a free, customized quote for your lawn care needs.

Free lawn analysis

Enter your address on the website to see an immediate lawn analysis for your yard. This includes a regional soil profile, average rainfall, growth potential, and temperature analysis. This part is pretty cool! They use satellite technology to obtain exact measurements for your yard. You will get the right amount of product for your yard’s size with no waste!

The beauty of Sunday Lawn Care is that they do all the analysis for you! You don’t need to get your soil analyzed and do the math yourself. They figure it out and send you a customized program to give your lawn and soil exactly what it needs to be healthy! This is perfect for the lawn owner that does not have the time or expertise to analyze, diagnose, and treat their lawn.

Pick a plan

After the free lawn analysis, there is a short survey about lawn use, lawn care expertise, and current lawn status. Based on the lawn analysis, and answers to the survey, Sunday Lawn Care recommends three levels of packages for your lawn.

The 3 levels suggested by Sunday Lawn are basic care, keep and protect, and grow and renew. Each level comes with additional products and a larger price tag. My personal plan included three boxes each year.

The subscription includes access to their user website and app to manage or add on to your subscription and lawn support.

Soil test

The first subscription box you receive will include a soil test kit and instructions for its use and return to the company. The results are viewable on the website and the app.

Give it a try, and see if Sunday Lawn Care is right for you and your lawn!

Where else can I find Sunday Lawn Care products?

The Sunday Lawn Care nutrient pouches are only available with a subscription. Walmart also carries limited Sunday lawn care products! You can find Nix Tix, Mosquito Deleto, Pet Patch Lawn Repair, Dandelion Doom, and Weed Warrior at Walmart stores or on the Walmart website.

What do you get in your box?

The first subscription box includes a starter tool kit. The tool kit attaches to a garden hose and the pouch of the lawn care product so that the product can be sprayed on the lawn.

All the Sunday Lawn Care products are in liquid form and are applied with a sprayer or hose rather than with a traditional fertilizer spreader.

The box will also contain instructions for use. Your products will arrive in pouches. If you choose any weed products in your level of lawn care package, the first package will also include a pump sprayer to apply the liquid weed killer.

What is in Sunday Lawn Care products?

Sunday Lawn Care boasts all-natural, organic ingredients. Their products are safe for pets and children. I love the idea of clean lawn products that allow my kids to run around barefoot, even after application!

Soy Protein

Soy protein is a natural source of nitrogen. Nitrogen helps your grass grow thick and green! According to this study by Iowa State University, soy-based fertilizers actually break down slower than most traditional fertilizers. This allows for a time-released, longer-acting dose of nitrogen.

Iron

Grass needs iron to be able to perform photosynthesis, the process by which plants make food from sunlight. Nourished, iron-rich grass will look green, thick, and healthy.

Seaweed

Sunday Lawn Care uses seaweed from the coast of Maine. Seaweed has been shown to be full of nutrients that grass needs for growth.

Seaweed contains:

  • Nitrogen, which aids in protein and chlorophyll development. Chlorophyll is what gives grass its green color.
  • Phosphorus, which is helpful for root growth and photosynthesis.
  • Potassium is a great nutrient to strengthen plants against pests and diseases.

Molasses

Molasses is sticky and sweet, making it an excellent source of naturally occurring sugars to increase helpful microbes in the soil. In addition, molasses contains minerals like calcium and iron.

All the product safety data sheets, including all ingredients, ecological, health, and safety indications, are available here.

Lawn Nutrients

What are the different nutrient packets?

Sunday Lawn Care has several lawn care packets available. Your subscription may contain any combination of these packets, depending on your analysis. Most subscriptions send out three boxes per year with 2-4 nutrient packets each. These include:

  • Iron Booster is helpful for green grass with a boost of nitrogen and iron.
  • Heat Helper helps grass weather the hottest parts of the year by supporting strong grass.
  • Lawn Strong is a blend of soy protein and molasses to support healthy soil.
  • Lawn Vitality is a medium nitrate blend for healthy soil and green grass.
  • Grass Machine helps create a robust root system for dark, green grass.
  • Grass Powerhouse contains sea kelp to help grow strong, gorgeously green grass.
  • Green Out uses potassium and manganese for overall grass health. Potassium, in particular, helps grass with weather, pest, and disease resistance.
  • Lawn Strength is full of molasses and nitrogen for healthy, microbe-rich soil and green grass.
  • Fall Fortify is an end-of-season formula designed to prepare the lawn for winter.

How is Sunday Lawn Care applied to the grass?

The Sunday Lawn Care nutrient packs contain liquid. The first box in the subscription will include a starter tool kit. The kit includes a hose-end sprayer that attaches the nutrient pack to your garden hose. Attach the kit and the sprayer, and the application is as simple as using your hose!

Check the user guide that comes in the subscription box before you apply the nutrient packs. The Sunday Lawn Care experts recommend applying the fertilizer one to two days after water or rainfall. A lawn that is well-watered but not water-logged will be more receptive to the nutrients you apply.

What is the soil test?

A soil test kit and instructions will be included in the first subscription box. It’s simple – place some soil from your lawn in the tube, and mail it back to Sunday Lawn Care.

The test measures:

  • pH
  • Calcium
  • Phosphorus
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Sulfur
  • Iron
  • Boron
  • Manganese
  • Zinc
  • Copper

Once the results are back from the lab, they are available for viewing in your account on the website. This process usually takes 3-4 weeks.

Does Sunday Lawn Care include weed control?

Does Sunday Lawn Care Include Weed Control

A basic Sunday Lawn Care package does not include their weed control products. Weed control is available in mid and upper-level package options or as an add-on option.

The weed control products are just that – weed control. Sunday Lawn Care does not currently offer any type of pre-emergent. They maintain that a pre-emergent is not a component of natural lawn care.

Sunday Lawn Care focuses on healthy grass and soil. If the grass is thick and healthy, there won’t be any room for weeds!

Does Sunday Lawn Care include pest control?

Sunday Lawn Care does not include any kind of pesticide or pest control substance. They promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM can eliminate the need for pesticides by proactively building overall lawn health.

Being proactive with disease, pests, or weeds is the key to minimizing environmental impact. In other words, keep a close eye on your lawn. If issues come up, treat them immediately! Pull weeds right away, overseed thin areas, and treat any fungus as soon as possible. This method will minimize the need for chemicals that can impact the ecosystem.

How Much Does Sunday Lawn Care Cost?

Sunday Lawn Care is actually very affordable compared to a lot of lawn programs! Basic lawn care packages start at $119 for one year of lawn care products. The price can be up to $259 per year.

The yearly cost is based on the lawn’s size, geographic region, and the lawn’s specific needs. The subscription includes all tools and nutrient pouches needed for lawn care for that year. These typically come in 1-4 boxes.

Sunday Lawn Care offers a $25 referral credit for every friend you refer. The friend will also receive $25 off their first box.

Shipping and handling are included in the cost of the monthly subscription package. Add-on items and grass seed also include free shipping.

What if I don’t like my subscription?

Sunday Lawn Care has a better lawn guarantee. If customers are unhappy, they should contact the company for a product replacement or recommendation.

As with any service, I recommend you read all the terms and conditions before you sign up. Please note that although the service may be canceled at any time, there are no refunds or credits for partial periods.

Can I add on to my subscription?

Basic lawn care packages do not include weed control or grass seed. These products can be added on to the basic package. Weed control is included in some of the packages if you choose a level other than the basic package.

Weed Warrior

Weed Warrior is an herbicidal soap designed to kill grass, weeds, algae, and moss. Herbicidal soap is an organic compound that will break down the coating on the outside of leaves. Results will be apparent within 20 minutes.

Weed Warrior is non-selective weed control. It is not intended to be used on lawns. It will kill any grass and weeds it comes into contact with. Weed Warrior is certified as organic and is priced at $20 per bottle.

Dandelion Doom

Dandelion Doom is for use on broadleaf weeds that are in the grass. It is a weed spot treatment that uses a chelate solution to kill weeds but will not harm your lawn. It is effective on various weeds, including burweed, chickweed, dandelion, thistle, and white clover.

Dandelion Doom is also $20 per bottle. Sunday Lawn Care currently offers a bottle of Weed Warrior and a bottle of Dandelion Doom for $20 total. These are available as subscription add-ons for existing customers.

Bare Repair

Bare Repair is a seed blend combined with mulch and fertilizer designed to overseed sparse patches of your lawn. It is available as a subscription add-on for $18.

Grass Seed

Some of the premium lawn care packages include grass seed. Otherwise, it is available as an add-on item or as a one-time purchase.

There are several options for grass seed. They are:

  • Fescue Rescue is a northern transitional grass seed that does best in full sun or light shade.
  • Kentucky’s Best is a bluegrass blend for northern regions with moderate summers and cold winters.
  • Shade Select is a blend of bluegrass, ryegrass, and fescue designed for low sun or difficult-to-plant areas in the northern transitional region.
  • Bermuda Time is a heat and drought-resistant Bermuda grass blend for southern lawns.
  • Lucky Lawn is a clover, fescue, and bluegrass blend that does well in northern lawns prone to weeds.

The grass seed comes in 5-pound bags for $29-$34 each. Grass seed is available for purchase without an existing subscription and includes free shipping.

User reviews

According to Facebook user reviews, Sunday Lawn Care has 4.3 stars out of 5 based on 404 user reviews.

Here are what a few of them had to say:

“I took over doing the lawn myself this year, and the lawn was just filled with all kinds of weeds, including clover. Once I killed out all the weeds, I needed help reviving the lawn back to green & lush, and that is EXACTLY what Sunday did!” –

Anastasia

“Application was super easy, and I loved having a product on my lawn that I could apply and then be out on it later when it dries. I do wish that it was something that helped control weeds like some other brands “weed and feed” products, but I do think it made my grass healthier.”

Michael T

“Just wrapped our first season with you guys, and the results were so great! Healthiest the lawn has ever looked, and we feel good we did it ecologically!”

T.C.P

There were some negative reviews on Reddit. Most of the complaints revolved around concerns with the subscription, cancellation policies, and refund issues.

I could not find a listing on the Better Business Bureau for Sunday Lawn Care. This may be due to the fact that Sunday Lawn Care is a relatively new business.

Sunday Lawn Care Blog

Sunday Lawn Care has a blog with helpful topics for homeowners, such as “Weeds: What You Need to Know” and “Preparing for Your First Mow.”
