The GreenWorks PRO 16-Inch 80V Cordless String Trimmer is a commercial grade tool designed with heavy-duty power and professional yard work in mind.
This trimmer can trim with the best of them, except super heavy duty gas-powered trimmers. It is hardy and powerful enough to take on more difficult tasks.
The ergonomic and efficient design makes this GreenWorks trimmer a great tool to have in any yard tool collection. Almost all of the product and customer reviews online had only positive things to say about this trimmer and those that had complaints were still positive reviews.
Very few consumers seemed discontent with this product.
PROS
- Weight: Semi lightweight weighing just under 20lbs
- Power: 80V battery is powerful enough to cut through thick grass
- Sound: Less noise produced because it is battery run
CONS
- Guard: Small trimmer guard allows clippings get all over the user (MESSY!)
- Runtime: lasts long enough for medium sized yards (45min)
KEY FEATURES
- 16-Inch cutting swath allows large jobs go by faster
- With a fully charged 80V 2Ah battery, it can run for up to 45 minutes before needing to be recharged. A 4Ah battery can be purchased to allow for a 1 hour run time.
- The 80V 2Ah Lithium-ion battery recharges in about 30 minutes, so there’s not much delay in progress to charge.
- It has a die cast gearbox for durability
- Dual line bump feeding head takes 0.080 inch line and larger 0.095 inch line
- The brushless motor offers increased power, better performance, and impressive strength
- Easily stored when not in use thanks to the split shaft design that makes breakdown easy
- Designed with superior balance and ergonomics in mind with a front mount in place to help stabilize while in use
- Lightweight and easy to use, though not as light as less powerful cordless, battery charged trimmers
- The variable trigger speed allows for easier access to the machine’s power on demand
PRODUCT REVIEW
Though most people seemed happy with this machine, there were a few downsides to address. The disadvantages include weight, battery runtime, small guard, and other complications.
Weight
This trimmer may be lighter than the heavier gas-powered trimmer, but when it comes to other battery powered trimmers it is somewhat cumbersome. Weighing in around 10 lbs this is one of the heavier battery charged trimmers that we’ve come across.
I haven’t used this GreenWork trimmer yet, but according to the many reviews I’ve read through, most people wish it were lighter. They also say that the battery offsets the balance quite a bit and can make the added weight tricky to work with.
Battery
The 80V Lithium-ion 2Ah battery produces an impressive amount of power almost equal to a heavy-duty gas-powered trimmer.
While the 2Ah battery only lasts working at maximum power for around 30 minutes, there are a few options to get longer runtime:
- Purchase extra batteries. By getting extra batteries, you can switch out the spent battery with a charged battery while charging the dead battery and continue transitioning like this until your project is finished.
- Purchase a larger battery. This GreenWorks Pro String Trimmer also takes 4Ah batteries that have a longer lifetime of about 1 hour – which is generally enough time to complete your yard work.
Despite the runtime battery problem, the power output is impressive. There are many reports complimenting the cutting power and consistency of this trimmer. Some even say it’s better than even their heavy-duty gas-powered trimmer.
Guard Size
There were countless complaints about the guard design and size.
Because of the trimmer guard size, working with this trimmer can get messy. Reviews say that the grass clippings don’t just get all over the user’s pants, but can also get on the user’s face.
Working outside can get messy, but no one likes getting hit in the face with ninja-speed grass clippings. You definitely want to wear proper eye protection and long pants when running this machine.
Complications
Quite a few product reviewers have said that the trimmer head fell apart after the first use. This was a rather consistent report in the reviews, but, the good news is, they all appeared to be resolved quickly.
In almost every case, customer service took care of the complication and sent new parts.
Though this has been a relatively consistent issue, the Greenworks customer service team seems willing to resolve the breaks quickly and with more reliable parts. After the parts have been replaced the problems seem resolved.
All in all, the reviews of the Greenworks PRO ST80L210 were good. Most people who reviewed this trimmer were happy with its weight, power, balance, runtime, and most other features. Despite the minor, fixable complications, this trimmer seems to satisfy its customers.
